The Canadian Foundation for Financial Planning™

The Canadian Foundation for Financial Planning is an independent registered charity dedicated to improving the lives of Canadians by supporting widespread access to the benefits of financial planning.

Our work impacts all Canadians, no matter their financial circumstances. By collaborating with our partners and volunteer financial planner professionals, we help ensure that those who need it most have improved access to financial planning advice - and the knowledge and skills to feel financially secure.

How the Foundation Wants to Make a Difference

FP Canada™ and the Institute of Financial Planning have a shared vision for a future where all Canadians have the financial confidence they need to flourish. Through the Canadian Foundation for Financial Planning, these organizations are working to provide better access to financial planning advice, guidance, and tools.

Ultimately, the Foundation aims to equip Canadians with the knowledge to create their own paths to financial resilience. We will do that through education, and through initiatives that allow financial planners to give back to their communities. We will focus in large part on financially vulnerable groups.

Education

Financial planning literacy empowers people to build their financial resilience. To improve financial planning literacy for Canadians from different backgrounds, the Foundation will collaborate with community partners to deliver accessible, culturally relevant financial education.

Giving Back

Financial planners want to make a difference in their communities. The Foundation will develop a program to connect volunteer financial planners with individuals and families who could benefit from their guidance, improving access to pro-bono financial planning services.

Why This Work Matters

Financial vulnerability can have a major impact on financial, physical, and mental health. Unfortunately, many Canadians have difficulty accessing the support they need to overcome financial vulnerability and build financial resilience.

But there’s good news on this front -- improving both financial literacy and access to professional financial planning advice can make a big difference for vulnerable Canadians.

Based on research, we know the following is true:

  • Planning ahead contributes to improved financial resilience.

  • There’s a link between working with a planner and improved financial resilience.

  • People who work with financial planners have lower levels of financial stress.

  • Sticking to a financial plan strengthens household financial resilience and overall wellness.

The need for financial resiliency has never been greater. By providing the tools Canadians need to build that resilience, the Canadian Foundation for Financial Planning is helping to create a more financially secure future for all people living in Canada.
